Build Your Own Curriculum

Your freedom of choice...

At DIS, you can select virtually any combination of courses to fulfill requirements in your major, in your minor, for general distribution credits, or to quench your own interests.  Most students take 2-3 courses in their major or a related field, and 1-2 courses from a completely different discipline.

Look through the elective course list , and be open to subjects outside your major.  You may be surprised by what appeals to you!  Have a couple of backups incase scheduling conflicts arise, and be mindful of all course prerequisites.

DIS Programs

DIS is divided into programs – like departments on your home campus.  A DIS program is defined as one core course and two course-integrated study tours: one short regional study tour early in the semester, and one longer European study tour in the middle of the semester.  See calendar for details.

In addition to a core course or two and your study tours, each program has its own gatherings and events throughout the semester – so, like your major at home, your program is an identifier.  When someone asks you, “What program are you in?” the answer will be a 2- or 3-letter acronym like EPS (European Politics & Society), PCD (Psychology & Child Development) or BB (Biotechnology & Biomedicine).  Check out the full program list here.

Study tours for all programs take place simultaneously, so you can sign up for only one DIS program.
