| A great way to help the community |
"Way Out is really cool. It's a great way to help the community and at the same time, I am able to see Danish volunteer efforts (as I have only experience with American volunteer experience). It is also a great chance to meet Danes as well as other nationalities (Norwegians, Germans, ethnic Danes, etc)."

Description of Program | Contact & Application | Where You Can Volunteer
Deciding to volunteer while abroad might be one of the best decisions you make.
Experience Copenhagen with the DIS Volunteer Program! By choosing to be a volunteer in Copenhagen, you are choosing to engage yourself in the local Danish community as well as to be a part of the DIS Volunteer Program. Through our resources, we are able to place students in organizations throughout the greater Copenhagen area where they volunteer weekly throughout the semester. These volunteer placements ensure that you are able to engage in meaningful service experiences, while at the same time giving something back to the Copenhagen community; it is also a unique opportunity to meet Danes. The DIS Volunteer Program offers support for you and the organisations throughout the semester. This is done through three meeting times per semester, used to discuss our experiences, as well as a web based forum discussion group.
Positions are limited so please notify us of your interest as soon as possible.

Where You Can Volunteer
For inspiration you will below find an introduction to organisations, schools and so on that DIS cooperates with in the Volunteer Program as well as a brief description of the volunteer position, and requirements. Finally, you will also find some comments from former students who have volunteered at the sites.
Schools
DIS currently cooperates with four schools namely one ‘Folkeskole’ (Junior High/High School), an International school and two High Schools.
The type of job that a DIS volunteer will take on when volunteering in one of the schools varies from being a teaching aid in English
classes to giving support and encouragement to students that might need this due to different factors.
Integration Projects
DIS currently works with 4 different integration projects. The goal of the projects is to keep the ethnic youth off the streets and the projects are at the same time also meant to help teens and aim at better integration & volunteers break stereotypes about the immigrants and Danish society.
The type of job that a DIS volunteer will take on when volunteering in one of the integration projects is typically one where the volunteer functions as an initiator and supervisor of different activities; often sports. Volunteering in an integration project is a unique chance for getting an insight into a part of Danish society that our students are not exposed to otherwise.
Social Projects
The social projects that are currently part of the DIS volunteer program cover a wide span. The one thing that they have in common is that they help the less fortunate in different ways. Volunteering in a social project is a unique opportunity of getting an insight into a part of Danish society that students are not exposed to otherwise.
Sports & Coaching
DIS currently works with two sports clubs. The volunteer positions being offered range from volunteering as coach to team manager. Volunteering in a sports club is a unique chance of getting an insight into the Danish sports culture, which operates differently than traditional youth or college sports in the States. The clubs often function as a social as well as athletic organization.
Nursing Homes
DIS currently works with two nursing homes. The volunteer positions offered involves tasks such as helping with resident care and with special care, help with daily activities and plan events for the residents. Volunteering at a nursing home is a good insight into the welfare system in Denmark as you get to experience how public nursing homes are run from first hand experience.
Non Governmental Organizations (NGO)
DIS currently cooperates with two NGOs. One of them works to secure people in Africa and Latin America equal access to education, influence and resources. DIS students can volunteer to be a helping hand in one of the projects that the NGO engages in. The second NGO administers Danish sponsors for African children, enabling the children to go to school.
