DIS Faculty

Introducing the DIS Faculty

DIS faculty are experts in their fields, teaching on a part-time basis while maintaining successful careers in business, architecture, research, media, politics, and other professions. All DIS faculty members have final university degrees qualifying them to teach at Danish institutions of higher education. DIS faculty, administrators, staff and students are engaged in a constant feedback loop through which student impressions, successes and concerns are communicated to the program’s decision-makers – and acted upon.

Importantly, the DIS instructors are not ‘itinerant’ lecturers who have made a career of teaching courses here and there. They ‘own’ their courses and teach and develop them in close cooperation with the DIS academic staff. Many participate in study tours as academic tour leaders, and within each of the DIS programs, faculty and staff form learning communities for mutual inspiration and discussions of academic content and teaching techniques.

Faculty Development

Every fall DIS invites approximately 25 instructors to participate in a ‘Danish Educators Workshop’ at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Teaching and Learning Services for training in the latest teaching and learning techniques and to enhance the DIS faculty’s competences as educators in an intercultural classroom.

There were so many amazing opportunities that DIS provided above and beyond other study abroad programs. The field studies to interesting and relevant places were really fantastic. Also, the professors clearly care a lot about their students and their successes.
