Off the coast of Copenhagen

December 11, 2009

Copenhagen is the greenest major city in Europe, according to a unique study of the environmental sustainability of 30 major cities in 30 European countries presented by Siemens.
Siemens publishes its first European Green City Index during December 2009, naming the Danish capital as the greenest city in Europe.

Copenhagen came out on top of the survey which monitors and grades overall performance in various environmental categories.

The index is comprised of eight categories, including CO2 emissions, overall environmental policy and recycling initiatives. Copenhagen finished in the top seven in all eight categories.

Copenhagen is hoping to be the world's first CO2 neutral capital in 2025, with windmill parks planned and other initiatives such as the switch to cars that only run on hydrogen or electricity.
