March: ‘High-brow Copenhagen’

Every month DIS organizes (and subsidizes) some social activities, which we think will help students get to know Denmark and Danish culture just a little bit better. The theme for the month of March is “high brow Copenhagen”.

OPERA AT THE ROYAL DANISH THEATRE: THE MAGIC FLUTE
Take in this classical Mozart opera, The Magic Flute, at the beautiful 19th century Royal Danish Theater. Recline in the lush crimson velvet seats and let yourself be enchanted by the magic tones of one of the great composers of all time. 

Practical details - March 10th: 7:00 PM Meet outside the Opera on Kgs. Nytorv with the DIS staff to pick up your ticket. 7:30 PM The performance begins.

IMAX MOVIE AT THE PLANETARIUM
This prominent feature of the Copenhagen cityscape (in Vesterbro, along the lakes), is even more interesting inside than its outward appearance would suggest. Inside the Tycho Brahe Planetarium you will have time to take in an exhibition about astronomy, several short and highly-entertaining 3D films, and also a stunning Imax movie about an Everest expedition.

Practical details - March 16th: 5:45 PM Meet outside of the Planetarium (at Gammel Kongevej 10).

LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART: COLOR IN ART – A GUIDED TOUR OF THE EXHIBITION
Take an s-tog ride up the coast to visit the spectacular Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. 
Colour in Art is a magnificent, visual journey of discovery into the inextricably close, but often stormy relationship between artists and color in the twentieth century. It takes the viewer through an array of brilliant works by the greatest names in modern art (Kadinsky, Nolde, Matisse, Miro, Hockney, Kusama…)

Practical details - March 20th
11:00 am: Meet with DIS staff at Nørreport to go to Louisiana together.
11:22 am: Train departs to Humlebæk station
12:15 pm – 1:00 pm: Guided tour
1:00 pm - : Time on your own
The trip includes the cost of the s-tog travel, a guided tour of the museum, and also time for you to enjoy the art and outdoor sculpture garden on your own.
