St. Lawrence student wins Academic Award
Each semester at DIS one student, who has distinguished him- or herself by outstanding academic performance, diligence and commitment is selected to receive the special Award of Academic Excellence at DIS.
DIS Associate Director, Malene Torp, presents the Award of Academic Excellence to Leah Sommerville Farrar

This semester Leah Sommerville Farrar a junior at St. Lawrence University, double-majoring in English and Fine Arts, earned the award, fending off strong competition from a excellent group of students nominated by the DIS faculty.
At DIS, Leah is a student in the European Culture & History Program, taking courses in; Nordic Mythology, Hans Christian Andersen, Homer to Harry Potter, Danish Language & Culture, she participated in DIS study tours to France and Mallorca, and Leah has lived with a host family in Lyngby.
Leah was presented with the award - an official certificate and prize money of 500 dollars – by DIS Associate Director, Malene Torp, at the Concluding Ceremony.
Leah’s nomination for the award came from a faculty member who has been with DIS for 19 years, who stated: “In all my years at DIS I don't think I have ever before wanted to nominate anyone, but then Leah came along!”
