Monocle released its annual Quality of Life rankings for 2010 this week – with Copenhagen named as the second most livable city for the second year in a row.
In 2008, Copenhagen topped the list, while in 2009 and now 2010, the Danish capital finished in second spot – making it the most consistent performer among its closest competitors.
Monocle magazine revealed its judging factors “go outside of economics and politics and focus on livability factors such as restaurants, green space per head of population, response time for emergency services, local entertainment, and even the ease of starting businesses”. It adds, “In the end the cities that make the cut are not just OK, but places that are benchmarks for urban renaissance and rigorous reinvention in everything from environmental policy to transport”.
About Copenhagen, Monocle said, “After playing host to climate change conferences over the year, Copenhagen has set the standard for low-emission urban living and is continuously transforming itself into the eco-capital of the world.”
