Study in the Heart of Copenhagen
DIS: In the Heart of Town
DIS is located in the very center of old Copenhagen – only two minutes’ walk from City Hall Square and the main pedestrian and shopping street, Strøget. Within walking distance from DIS you will find the main universities and research libraries of the country; parliament, government, and European Union agencies; superb art collections; the national research hospital; the Royal Ballet and Opera; the national media; and international company headquarters.
A Location with History
The DIS buildings date from 1798 and are protected by the Danish Preservation Act. Here you will find student lounges, administration, student services, classrooms, group rooms, architecture studios, the DIS library, and computer labs with PCs including free Wi-fi internet access. Most classrooms are just across the street, so unlike in many other big-city study abroad programs you don’t have to travel between facilities and classes.
Study Abroad at DIS and Interact with Copenhagen
The central location of DIS makes it easy to use all the educational resources of Copenhagen, with most DIS classes including field studies in and around the city. For instance, the History of European Ballet course might include viewing performances of the Royal Danish Ballet; Criminology and Criminal Justice in Scandinavia students conduct on-site discussions with prison inmates; European Business Strategy takes in a Scandinavian Airlines presentation; Children with Special Needs includes a visit to a crisis intervention center for at risk children; Architecture & Design students analyze examples of ground-breaking modern Scandinavian architecture; Human Trafficking in Europe classes get to talk with social workers at street level; and much, much more.
