Cell Phone Service
Rent a Cell Phone for free!
Since DIS is first and foremost committed to student safety, security and convenience, it is obligatory that you have a cell phone while enrolled in our program. To assist you, DIS has made arrangements with PicCell Wireless to supply you with a cell phone before you leave the U.S. or upon your arrival in Denmark.
As a special incentive, the standard cell phone rental fee is waived and a phone with Danish SIM card is provided free of charge for DIS students; you will only pay for the minutes that you use each month. Please be aware that DIS students are under no obligation to enroll in the PicCell phone plan; as in other countries, Denmark has a variety of service providers that you are welcome to explore on your own upon your arrival in Denmark.
PicCell Wireless will provide you with the free phone rental of an A+ unlocked tri-band phone and a phone number, a charger, and Danish SIM card for the length of time that you choose. The phone will be equipped with an alarm clock, voicemail, text messaging, call waiting and caller I.D.
The Phone Plan
With this cell phone plan you will, while in Denmark, only pay for phone traffic (calls, data transfers, or messages you send). You will never run out of minutes and will avoid the hassle and high cost of refilling pre-paid phone cards. Billing is done monthly, online, using your credit/bank card. You will be able to keep track of how much you are spending using your secure online, 'My PicCell' account. When you sign up, you determine the desired length of your contract for the use of the cell phone. There is no minimum time that you must use your cell phone per month; however, you must place at least one call or send at least one text message every 30 days to keep the contract activated.
Rates in Denmark
While in Denmark, you will have free incoming calls and text messages from any number, even compared to the US. Outgoing call and text message rates in Denmark are very reasonable. – Please see rates below.
Roaming Rates
Check out the latest rates while traveling.
Call Abroad Discount Number
By dialing the 'Call Abroad' access number, you can dramatically reduce the cost of international calls while in Denmark. This number can also be used when roaming but ONLY for calls to USA/Canada. For more information, be sure to read the 'Rates & Info' document provided after placing the order.
Rates while traveling
Having a cell phone while traveling outside Denmark on study tours or personal travel ensures that you can communicate in an emergency situation. However, DIS recommends using your PicCell cell phone outside Denmark ONLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCY because roaming rates vary by country and can be exorbitant. A few past students have accumulated bills in the thousands of dollars by placing calls while outside of Denmark - don't let this happen to you. Should you need to use your cell phone on a regular basis while outside Denmark, you should consider renting a PicCell SIM card for those countries. Using local SIM cards will ensure that you are paying local rates, and therefore you will not face international roaming charges.

Please be aware of the following!
Your contract will be with PicCell and not with DIS. We have arranged a favorable group deal with PicCell but you will need to work directly with them for service, contract and technical questions. PicCell will be at DIS during the beginning of each term to answer questions and provide assistance. DIS is not responsible for covering any extra fees that you may incur. Such fees will be charged to you in the following circumstances:
- You are responsible for phone traffic if the cell phone is lost or stolen until you DEACTIVATE outgoing calls. You can do that by calling customer service during the business week or through your online 'My PicCell' account 24 hours a day 7 days a week, from any country.
- If your phone is lost or stolen, you are responsible for replacing it at a cost of $85 (without insurance) or $45 (with insurance). Upon receipt of payment, PicCell Wireless will provide a new phone with the same number. Please refer to the DIS Student Services Department in Copenhagen for assistance with insurance policy conditions and procedures.
- You must make at least one call or send one text message every 30 days to keep the SIM card activated. If there is no sign of activity for more than 30 days, there is a $50 fee to reactive the SIM card.
- You decide the length of the contract and you can always extend it online at no charge. If you cancel your contract early, you will be billed $50.
- Altering the pin will result in a $25 fee.
- If you are a US student you will need to bring the phone back with you to the US and to the nearest UPS drop-off location. The cost of return shipping is free for DIS students. You will be charged for any non-returned components.
- If you are not a US student please contact PicCell Wireless before the end of your contract to arrange how to return your phone in Denmark at no further cost.
