Student Login
Every student is issued a unique username and password. Your username is your 5 digit student ID number. The password by default is Denmark1, you will be prompted at first login to create a personal password.
Internet Access
Wireless access is available throughout all DIS buildings. The network is called "Students". Pick up the network password at the Front Desk or IT Help Desk. Once you have entered the password your laptop should connect automatically when the network is in range.
Internet access is available at most host families and Danish roommates, and in all Kollegiums, DIS Residential Communites and Folkehøjskole sites.
Classroom AV Setup
Each classroom is equipped with computer, projector, DVD player, and additional cables for your personal laptop. There is a set-up instruction card placed in each classroom for reference. We do not have VGA adpaters for Mac laptops.
Note: When classes are not scheduled, students are welcome to use classroom computers and rooms for quiet study. See the schedule outside each classroom for availabilty.
Printing from DIS Computers
Printers are located in all DIS Computer Labs and Kiosks. Printers are clearly labeled with thier names. All computers are configured with the nearest printer as the default printer, but can be changed under the "File > Print" menu.
If your print job is not released by the printer there may be insufficient funds in your print account. You can add more money to your account at the IT Help Desk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you experience further problems with a printer, scanner or copier, please contact IT Support as soon as possible, we will credit your account for failed print jobs and resolve the issue.
Printers are configured to print in grey scale by default. If you would like to print in color, go to "File > Print", under "Printing Properties" uncheck "Print in Grey Scale". Please be aware of cost difference between color and grey scale.
To save paper, most printers are configured for duplex printing. These options can modified under "Printing Properties". Please note, you are charged per page of ink not by number of pages, 1 double-sided page is equal in cost to 2 single-sided pages.

Backing Up Your Personal Laptop
We strongly suggest regular backup of your personal computer to ensure that your personal files are secure.
Suggestions for backing up:
Web-based programs
- Dropbox: A free service which lets you store and synchronize files across any computer/device (PC, Apple, iPhone, etc…), from anywhere in the world, and also access them online. Also includes an option to recover a previous version of a file. In addition, allows collaboration and sharing with others who also use Dropbox. Free for up to 2GB and paid for space above that (50-100GB). http://www.dropbox.com
- Live Mesh: A similar service to Dropbox which also allows sharing and synchronization across computers (Apple, PC, and Mobile Devices). Has a little more initial space (5GB instead of 2GB), but no paid option yet for more space. Will also work across multiple devices and let you access the files from a web browser. http://www.mesh.com
- MobileMe: A paid subscription service created specifically for Apple computers, but will also work for PCs. Gives 40GB of storage space and also includes extra features for the iPhone, an e-mail address, etc… Will also allow synchronization of files and folders across multiple platforms, similarly to the above programs. http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
Physical storage based options: CDs and DVDs can be purchased at IT, for recomendations of other places to purchase please click here to send an email to IT support or stop by the IT Help Desk
- External Hard Drive: Will provide the most space for the cheapest price per GB. Will work on either MACs or PCs but may have problems across platforms. Very fast and flexible option of backing up all of your data; but Hard Drives are susceptible to physical damage, being lost, and being stolen.
- Memory Stick: A relatively cheap and very fast option of backing up data. Usually very portable and will work across many platforms/computers without problems. However small physical size makes these prone to getting lost, and a smaller capacity means that not as much data can be stored on a single device as with a hard drive.
- CD-Writable/DVD-Writable: Cheap option to back up data. Will work across many platforms as long as they have a writable drive. However these are slow to create, usually written only once, and are easily scratchable and are affected by the environment.
