What’s The Committee All About?

The primary function of the Student Activities Committee is to consider and develop proposals for student-initiated immersion activities, such as sporting events, museum outings, guided tours, theatrical performances, concerts, and so forth, with the goal of offering six social and cultural activities over the semester for the student body to participate in.

The Student Activities Committee works with the Housing & Student Affairs Department to prioritize initiatives and allocate financial subsidies, and also has the responsibility of promoting the activities offered, organizing and leading all events, which includes handling all logistical and financial matters.

How It’s Organized

There are 12 representative positions available on the committee. The members will be chosen by DIS staff based on the application submitted and housing category. Ideally, there will be 2-3 students from each housing category represented each semester. This system of representation is designed to maximize the committee’s accessibility and ability to reach out to the student body at large. The SAC convenes for meetings approximately every other Monday evening for a total of six meetings over the span of a semester.

Planning events in an environment you're comfortable with can really be a rewarding experience. Planning events in a foreign city, a foreign country, and involving locals themselves can be challenging, but learning how to interact and plan in a different culture and environment is truly an accomplishment.

Being a part of the SAC is a great way to meet students you otherwise wouldn't meet and help make the abroad experience special for all the DIS students. Planning events for everyone and getting people together is a great time.
