Article Databases & Dictionaries
The DIS Library provides access to the following academic databases and dictionaries. They can be accessed, without a username or password, from any computer placed in the DIS buildings in Vestergade.
- JSTOR – A high-quality, interdisciplinary archive to support scholarship and teaching. It includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work. The entire corpus is full-text searchable, offering search term highlighting, high-quality images, and is interlinked by millions of citations and references.
- ProQuest Academic Research Library – An online article database including 4,050 titles – nearly 2,800 in fulltext articles from 1971 onward. It features a highly-respected, diversified mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers covering most of the fields taught at DIS, i.e. Business, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Ebsco Academic Search Elite – The database provides full text for more than 2,000 journals. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for all 3,466 journals. The database covers most of the fields taught at DIS, i.e. Architecture, Business, Health Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Politics. Full text information in this database dates as far back as 1985.
- Danish-English/English-Danish Dictionary – A commercial online dictionary geared towards Danish speakers and those learning Danish.
- Directory of Open Access Journals – Free access to more than 3000 full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals.
- Merriam-Websters Visual Dictionary – The Visual Dictionary is designed to help you find the right word at a glance. Filled with stunning illustrations labeled with accurate terminology in up to six languages, it is the ideal language-learning and vocabulary dictionary.
- The ScientificWorld- The ScientificWorld currently publishes peer-reviewed journals for biomedical, life, and environmental sciences. The journals have editorial processes and structures designed to capture the benefits of the Internet - offering rapid review and immediate global dissemination. This database includes: ScientificWorld Journal, TSW Urology, TSW Development and Embryology, TSW Holistic Health and Medicine, and TSW Child Health and Development
Remote Access
For remote access outside of the DIS buildings in Vestergade to these databases and dictionaries:
- Go here and choose 'Danish Institute for Study Abroad' in the 'Organization' dropdown menu, and enter your username and password (provided in your black orientation bag - if you have misplaced yours, please ask the librarian for a new one).
- Once you are logged in, do a Quick Search for the title of the journal you would like to search.
- On the resulting page there will be a link provided for either the journal or the dictionary. Click this link and you should be ready to go!
