Summer Study Abroad 2012
Study Abroad Summer: Programs & Courses
Summer study abroad offers a stimulating and exciting experience, and at DIS, the focus is on maximizing your time both academically and culturally. If you choose summer study abroad at DIS, you will have the opportunity to further your academic goals and travel in Europe with DIS while learning about what you see (except in Session 1), meet Danes and encounter many opportunities for personal growth.
Session I students benefit from a lower tuition price due to courses being taught entirely in Copenhagen, with local, hands-on field studies supplementing the class work. Those who stay for 6 weeks will have the fantastic opportunity to travel with DIS on a study tour to a European location.
DIS offers a number of summer study abroad programs – all taught in English – that are unique in several ways. The topics are focused and cutting-edge, ranging from free speech and human trafficking to Scandinavian furniture design – and much more. Apart from Session I students, you will also take part in study tours in Europe, which are integrated into the coursework (and included in the tuition fees).
Summer Study Abroad at DIS:
- A wide range of academically interesting and challenging courses taught with a focus on interaction and real-life experience
- High academic quality, but with a different focus from your home university. Small classes taught by Danish faculty – experts who care about your learning outcomes
- Field studies and study tours that are integrated with courses so Copenhagen becomes your home and Europe your classroom
- Housing options that increase your exposure to Danish society and culture.
Study Abroad Summer 2012 Options at DIS
Early summer courses offer great flexibility in terms of length of study (three or six weeks) and course selection, while the late summer Architecture & Design are thoroughly integrated programs of seven weeks. Summer study abroad programs, like those during the semester, are demanding and of high academic quality.
You are expected to prepare for and attend classes, hand in assignments, and take responsibility for your own learning. Do not expect to work more than at home, but expect to work more than you might anticipate from a summer abroad program. Most DIS courses are taught by permanent, part-time Danish faculty who hold full-time positions in academia, government, business and other professions. The DIS student body is a diverse group of bright, high achieving third or fourth year students from ranking American universities and colleges, making the classroom and study tours a highly inspirational academic and social setting.
