Architectural Design Studio

Late Summer | 6 credits | Study Tour: A week-long study tour to Sweden and Norway, A week-long study tour to Sweden and Finland, A three-day study tour to Western Denmark

Studio instruction focuses on the design process, enabling each student to perform studies in accordance with Danish design practice. Design problems are approached from a conceptual, sustainable, contextual and user-focused point of view. Design solutions are based on critical analyses of high-quality examples of Scandinavian and North European architecture.

Studio groups combine students of different standing and background. The course is taught vertically, and expectations relate to each individual student.

Please Note: The syllabus is accurate in terms of course content and objectives, however the daily schedule is not up to date as it is from the previous summer.Please do not make any travel plans or other arrangements around it.

Prerequisites

Enrollment at a professional school or department of architecture or design at the junior, senior or graduate level, and completion of a minimum of two spatial design studios prior to arrival at DIS.

Students should bring examples of their work in a portfolio to be submitted to their studio instructors at the beginning of Assignment 2. This will allow the professors to become acquainted with the design skills of each student.  The portfolio should contain:

The portfolio must be submitted as a digital PDF or hard copy.  The pages should be formatted to A4 size (210mmx297mm) or US-Letter size (8.5"x11").
