Children with Special Needs
Early Summer Session 1
| 3 credits
An interdisciplinary perspective on understanding children and families with special needs and the settings for their support. The seminar examines the dichotomies and dilemmas of working with children that may have diagnoses while also recognizing and supporting the child’s perspective and right to play, friendship and learning. The students’ practicum experiences will be discussed and analyzed from various theoretical perspectives.
Includes practicum in Copenhagen.
Please note: As part of the required practicum component of this course, you will work directly with children in this program. Danish law requires that any individuals who work with children must obtain "criminal clearance" from state or local authorities prior to leaving the United States (or your country of citizenship). You are responsible for arranging the clearance and obtaining a copy of your background check showing a clear criminal history from your local police station and then bringing it with you to Copenhagen.
