Furniture Design in Scandinavia

| Study Tour:
A week-long study tour to Sweden and Finland
A general view of furniture design in Scandinavia, with a focus on Denmark. Current and historical conditions of furniture design are presented and the underlying design theories and methodologies introduced. Aspects of Scandinavian industrial design, interior design and architecture are included.
Please Note: The syllabus is accurate in terms of course content and objectives, however the daily schedule is not up to date as it is from the previous summer.Please do not make any travel plans or other arrangements around it.
Prerequisites
Students should bring examples of their work in a portfolio to be submitted to their studio instructors at the beginning of summer session. This will allow the professors to become acquainted with the design skills of each student. The portfolio should contain:
- A one-page resume (short and precise) listing all studios, courses, assignments, and other relevant material, beginning with the most recent information. Clearly state current year/position in school. Briefly state expectations of study at DIS.
- Approximately 3 pages of project illustrations from one or several projects done in studio (or independently if relevant), accompanied by a short description.
The portfolio must be submitted as a digital PDF or hard copy. The pages should be formatted to A4 size (210mmx297mm) or US-Letter size (8.5"x11").
