Summer Study Abroad Credit Transfer

At DIS, our credit structure is the very same as at the majority of North American universities and colleges. Summer students take courses worth three to six credits, depending on the term of study.

Studying abroad during the summer at DIS should in no way hold up your graduation. Just ensure you take the essential steps to clear all courses you plan to take and the credits associated with the courses with your home college or university before you begin the study abroad summer session.

Plan Credit Transfers Before Departure

The optimal manner to guarantee that your DIS credits count back at your home institution is to plan in advance! DIS advises that all students first meet up with the study abroad office and/or academic advisor when courses have been chosen. Bring along the relevant syllabi as this will assist advisors in determining credit-transfer processes and details. Should you require further information from DIS, just contact the North American Office on 800.247.3477, or via e-mail at dis@umn.edu.

School of Record

The University of Minnesota is the DIS school of record, which issues official transcripts to institutions that are unable to accept the DIS Final Grade Report as documentation of credit earned abroad. There is an additional fee of US$350 for this service. Students will receive additional information about School of Record during program registration.

Credit & Grade Reports

Note that Final Grade Reports are sent out soon after the conclusion of each summer program. The student will receive one copy, while a second copy will be sent to the home university (or the institution that permitted you to study at DIS). The report sent out details the courses studied, final grades and the credits gained. Grades are formatted in a standard A-F scale just like at home, while the full report is written in English.

Did You Know That...

...37% of DIS students say easy credit transfer to their home university is one of the reasons they chose to study abroad at DIS?
