Did you know?

The DIS fees are published 12-16 months in advance of the start of your semester. They are listed in US dollars and are guaranteed not to change once published. Many other study abroad programs’ prices are announced very late, are not guaranteed not to change, and can increase on a short notice
The two tables on this page give you a clear overview of the cost of attending DIS in the summer of 2011. There are no hidden costs, nor will the quoted prices change between their publication and the start of the programs.
As a non-profit organization, it is the policy of DIS to keep annual price increases to a minimum

On-site services available at no charge to all DIS students

The Comprehensive Housing Fee Includes (for all students)

Please note that DIS does not offer Danish family stay, Danish Roommate stay or Folkehøjskole stay as housing options during the summer programs due to vacations in Denmark and summer activities at the Folkehøjskole.

Kollegium Stay

Students choosing DIS-arranged housing will, while in Denmark, receive a food stipend in Danish Kroner unless another arrangement has been requested by your university. The stipend equals the following: Early Summer 3-credit course: US$ 100; Late Summer 9-credit programs: US$ 200.
Expenses for food vary a great deal, but do not expect to spend less than US$ 400 per month.

Other Services Included In The Comprehensive Housing Fee:

Independent (Self-arranged) Housing

You are welcome to arrange your own housing in Copenhagen. In this case you pay neither the Comprehensive Housing Fee.
DIS cannot assist with rent payments, deposits, furnishings, bedding, transportation, etc. But we do offer some advice and also post various room/apartment offers on DIS Forum (an intranet for accepted DIS students). For Forum access please click here. Note that your local transportation costs and food stipend are not included when choosing independent housing.

The deadline for switching from DIS-arranged housing to self-arranged housing is one month before the arrival date, but the sooner you sign up for housing the better. If you switch after this deadline, a cancellation fee of US$ 100 plus additional direct costs associated with the housing change will be applied.

Program Change Fee

Refer to to the Deposit, Cancellation & Changes page under Semester Students.

School of Record Fee

DIS issues a Final Grade Report to the student after completion of the term of attendance. Your home institution determines whether credits from DIS will be accepted directly, or whether an official transcript from a United States accredited institution is needed. If this is the case, the University of Minnesota will act as the School of Record and provide an official transcript for a fee of $350, which will be added to your invoice.
Please check with your home institution as to whether a Final Grade Report from DIS is acceptable, or if an official transcript from the University of Minnesota is needed for you to receive class credit. This must be arranged prior to the beginning of the summer semester as part of the registration process.
Final Grade Reports and/or University of Minnesota official transcripts will only be issued if all fees have been paid to DIS and there are no academic or administrative holds on your record.

Personal Expenses

Based on the current rate of exchange, the cost of living in Denmark is slightly higher than in the US. Excluding food, former students have reported spending approximately $400 a month on average. This figure should be reduced or increased based on your own spending habits, but you should also budget for independent travel in Europe after the course and for one meal per day during study tours.
