Description

As in many European cities, prostitution is legal in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam. But unlike other cities, the Dutch sex industry has become a tourist attraction. On this tour, students will gain insight into the implications of this phenomenon. They will see firsthand how prostitution impacts the women involved, how NGO’s work to help them, and how law enforcement officials have learned to cope with legalized prostitution in their city. Through hands-on visits with a multiplicity of actors, students will be able to contextualize the sociological and psychological theories of prostitution that they study in the classroom.
