Study abroad is an exciting, unique, and most likely a one of a kind experience for any student. As a dedicated study abroad program, DIS knows how important this experience is, offering a complete and student-optimized study abroad program.

Courses & Programs

A program at DIS focuses on a specific academic field and consists of one core course which include two integrated study tours relevant to the course content. Your choice of core course determines what program you are in. After you have chosen your core course, you can freely choose from any of the over 150 DIS elective courses, as long as you meet your home university’s requirements – so you can enhance your major by choosing related elective courses, or diversify into other areas of interest.

Study Tours

At DIS, you will go on two program study tours integrated in your core course choice. Both are academic-based, with one regional tour and one tour to a European destination. Aside from the study tours integrated with your core course, several elective courses also have study tours to a variety of academically relevant destinations. This way, you will travel in Europe with DIS, while learning about what you see. DIS also offers outdoor adventure and day trips, which are optional, and generally not academically based.

Cultural Immersion and Housing

Intercultural development and cultural immersion through volunteering, sports, a DIS Danish Buddy Network, Danish Language & Culture courses, and other social options is a key aspect of studying abroad at DIS. These are intended to deepen your integration into Danish society and further your cultural and social experiences in a fun and interesting way! Unique housing options are also designed to expose you to Danish society to varying degrees. High: family stay, Danish roommate, højskole. Medium: kollegium. Or low: DIS Residential Community.

Credit Transfer & Classes

DIS offers more than 150 high-quality courses across a broad spectrum of disciplines covering everything from European civilization to the burning issues of our time – and all tailor-made for study abroad students and with easy credit transfer to home universities. Instruction is interactive, and learning outcome objectives frame your learning. At DIS class sizes are small, so you receive close academic attention.

The Copenhagen Study Abroad Experience!

Last but not least, studying at DIS gives you the opportunity to discover the wonderful city of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital and your home away from home. You’re sure to fall in love with this cozy, safe, exciting fairy tale city, with its blend of the historic and modern!

Your Choice!

A DIS program is defined as one core course, which contains two course-integrated study tours. Once you have chosen your core course, you can choose your electives.
Most students take two to three courses in their major or related field, and one to two courses from a different discipline. This allows you to focus on your major or diversify – but just ensure home university requirements are met!

Full-Year Option

If you are staying for the full year, the break between the end of fall semester and the beginning of spring semester is free for you to travel in Europe or go home for Christmas. Some students arrange to spend Christmas with their Danish families, then travel.

Full year students have the option to change program in the spring semester with a new core course and a new set of program-integrated study tours. You can still enroll in all elective courses offered.
