Volunteering in Denmark Experience Denmark in a whole new way
DIS students can choose to volunteer during their time in Denmark, something which allows them to really engage with the local Danish community – and it may just turn out to be one of the best decisions you can make while studying abroad. Through connections and resources, DIS is able to place students in organizations throughout the greater Copenhagen area. Here you get to volunteer throughout the semester and thereby engage in a meaningful service experience, while giving something back to the community. Additionally it is a great way to meet the Danes.
DIS offers students three distinct volunteering options to choose from:
Cph Volunteers
DIS has recently partnered with Cph Volunteers. This is a volunteer squad under the Municipality of Copenhagen's Department of Culture and Leisure and the sub-department of City Development and Events.
By helping Copenhagen host prestigious international events, Cph Volunteers is doing its share to make Copenhagen a better international host city and a more lively and exciting place to live for all its inhabitants. There are many events scheduled over the year and examples of previous volunteer opportunities include: Her Majesty the Queen’s 70th Birthday, Danish Deejay Awards, UCI BMX World Championship and the Copenhagen Fashion Festival.
In order to become a member of Cph Volunteers, please email volunteering@dis.dk. You will then become a member of the organization through DIS. Once registered you will receive newsletters directly from Cph Volunteers listing upcoming events that you can sign-up for. The first newsletter will be sent out during the first week of August listing upcoming events for the semester. Read the Membership Guidelines.
DIS Volunteer Program
*Please submitt all application materials for the Spring 2012 semester by December 16th!
The DIS Volunteer Program matches you with an organization aligned with your area of interest. Once matched, it is your responsibility to make arrangements for your meeting times. You are expected to meet a minimum of five to eight hours a week for the entire semester. This volunteer option is great for someone who is self-motivated and dedicated. Due to the high level of responsibility each student is given in order to maintain on-going relationships with these sites, spots are limited and very competitive. An application and statement of interest must be submitted by the deadline. Interviews are held before a placement is given. A maximum of 15 students are selected each semester. *Priority is given to full-year students. Learn more: DIS Volunteer Program.
Companion Course
To get the most out of the volunteering experience, you are invited to enroll in the three-credit course Service Learning Seminar.
