Cooking Course
Come and learn alongside other DIS students how to make good food in an easy way.
Fall & Spring
In these classes you will learn to make a variety of foods: baking bread, making vegetarian meals, making Danish food, and much more. Some semesters we cook Italian, Gyanese, and Danish food. Other semesters we focus on favorites like 'easy breakfast' or 'fast and delicious dinner'.
You will learn to cook with all your senses - not only will you eat better, you will amaze your family and friends with your new found culinary skills! The food is important, but the time we spend making the food and eating together will teach you a lot about Danish culture and "hygge".

Danish Beer Tasting
Danish Culture Through a Beer Mug
Fall & Spring
Join a Danish beer connoisseur for a fun time dedicated to the sophisticated world of Danish craft beer. There will be sampling of different beers and discussions of their flavors, history, and ingredients.
This will serve as an introduction the Danish microbrewery scene and give you the skills to better understand and decipher the flavors you will find in modern craft beer.

Elsinore & Kronborg
Historical & Cultural Excursion to Elsinore & Kronborg Castle
Fall & Spring
Take a guided tour of the Kronborg Castle in Elsinore, one of northern Europe's most important Renaissance castles. Kronborg is the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet, and Denmark's most famous castle.
The historical rooms in Kronborg house collections from Renaissance and Baroque interiors, and the castle's substantial fortifications include bastions and ravelins. Among the most important features are the 62-metre long ballroom, the wonderfully preserved chapel, and the statue of "Holger the Dane".

European Wine Tasting Club
Join the DIS wine tasting club
Fall & Spring
The Wine Tasting club is open to students with a serious interest and/or curiosity in wine and consists of six two-hour sessions where we taste and discuss six different wines per session. The session includes a break where a light dinner of tapas (or similar) will be served.
Each session will also include background material on the regions on which we will focus, as well as general and practical information about wines and the procurement of wines in Copenhagen.

Fishing Trip
Join us for a fishing trip in Helsingør's North harbor
Fall & Spring
The Danes are pretty fond of their fish, especially if it is fresh and caught locally. Now you will have the chance to try to catch your own herring on a fishing trip in Helsingør's north harbor... and any fish that you catch you can take home with you and enjoy, just like the Danes!
This trip includes fishing gear and transportation, but you will be responsible for either bringing your own lunch or purchasing a sandwich, etc. on board the boat. And remember... dress for the weather!

Frederiksborg Castle
A Historical & Cultural Excursion to Frederiksborg Castle
Fall & Spring
Take a guided tour around Frederiksborg Castle, the impressive Royal Renaissance castle in the city of Hillerød, north of Copenhagen. Most of the castle dates from the early 1600s during the reign of King Christian IV.
Frederiksborg Castle served as the home of Danish Royalty, but is today a museum depicting the history of Denmark through period paintings and antique furnishing. The Baroque Garden established 1720-1725 (re-established in 1993) creates continuity between building, garden and the open land.
Along the main axis in Frederik IV's garden, lies a cascade of water canals and fountains. Symmetrically surrounding the cascade are avenues and parterres sporting the royal monograms.

Hans Christian Andersen & Kierkegaard
A walk in Hans Christian Andersen’s and Kierkegaard’s footsteps
Fall
Take a Hans Christian Andersen and a Søren Kierkegaard themed walk through the streets and squares of Golden Age Copenhagen. The trip will include a stop for hot chocolate or coffee at the classic Copenhagen café Á Porta, which has been in existence since the late 18th century.
Many a famous Dane has frequented this café, among others Hans Christian Andersen, who would often come here for a cup of hot chocolate.

Use this opportunity to go to IKEA with your fellow students and pick up those little necessities that make you feel at home. This trip will take place shortly after arrival.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Louisiana Museum & Guided Tour
Fall & Spring
The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is located in northern Zealand with a panoramic view across the Øresund. The museum frames the sculpture park facing the sea and the interaction between art, nature and the museum architecture is quite unique.
Current exhibitions include contemporary artwork from artists around the world, and also an exhibit on sustainable architecture which has received many wonderful reviews from critics of all kinds.

A fun experience that takes you back to the middle age
Fall & Spring
Visit the Esrum Abbey dating from the Middle Ages, learn to compete with your fellow students in traditional, mediæval fighting games and conclude with a tasting of the famous Abbey Ale!

Vikings & Kings
A guided tour of Roskilde Cathedral & Roskilde Viking Ship Museum
Fall
Take a guided tour of Roskilde Cathedral! Since the 13th century Danish kings and queens have been buried here, no less than 38, including all of the Danish-Norwegian kings, and Queen Margrethe I (1387 – 1412), who was the Queen of Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
This trip also includes a guided tour of the Viking Ship Museum. The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde offers a unique opportunity to discover the Viking Age and life at sea. Five original 11th-century Viking ships, excavated from Roskilde Fjord in 1962, are on display in the Viking Ship Hall. The hall also houses an exhibition describing a sea-borne assault on Roskilde by Norwegian Vikings.Note: Specific activities may vary due to availability and circumstances.
