Psychology

The Psychology program is designed for students in this major. The core course and study tours introduce you to recent developments and research in the area of positive psychology, including the impact of genetic (‘nature’) and environmental (‘nurture’) factors on happiness; constructs of well-being and happiness as well as ways in which positive emotions influence cognition, health, wealth, and social relationships. Students examine why Denmark routinely tops the lists of happiest places in the world.

Core Course

and

An examination of recent psychological research in the rapidly expanding field of positive psychology; constructs of well-being and happiness; and ways that positive emotions influence cognition, health, wealth, and social relationships. What does science reveal about happiness? What are the possible pitfalls of a psychology of happiness?

Program Study Tours

The study tours, which are covered by the DIS tuition, form an integral part of the core course. Students will explore and compare how the positive psychology is applied in various institutions, organizations as well as in areas of research in Denmark and Scotland.

Elective Courses

In addition to the required core course, you are free to select any combination of courses from the DIS curriculum. Please click here for a full course overview. If you want to take some of your electives in the field of psychology, check out courses listed under Psychology

Positive Psychology Practicum

This optional practicum is a companion course to Positive Psychology. It offers an experiential opportunity for students to learn more about young children in Danish day care settings, early constructs of positive emotions and the application of best practices to positive psychology principles. Every student has a placement one day per week (total of 45 to 55 hours per semester)in one of the following: a Danish vuggestue (for children age 1-3) or a a børnehave (for children age 2-6). Students will observe and interact with children under the guidance of a supervisor and draw upon these experiences.

This practicum assignment has been beneficial in a variety of unexpected ways. I expected that the experiential course would help me to narrow my focus, to affirm my future plans. On the contrary, working with the students at Brandstationen widened my horizons and presented me with more potential career options.
