This course is an investigation of women artists and their impact on early modern and contemporary culture, with a focus on Europe. Issues of gender, institutional practice, postmodernism, and contemporary critical debate form an essential component of class discussions and museum visits.
Field Studies
- Copenhagen Museums and Galleries
- Students in this course will use several local galleries and museums to gain first hand experience of historical and contemporary art. Though visits vary due to changing exhibits, students will visit many of the following museums as a part of this course: Arken Museum of Modern Art, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Statens Museum for Kunst, Odrupgaard Museum, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and Den Frie Undstillingsbygning.
