Description
Spend a weekend in the beautiful and historic city of Amsterdam to better understand the concepts of human trafficking and prostitution. Amsterdam is a dynamic city-- full of culture, natural beauty, and liberal attitudes. A thriving red light district blends effortlessly into the city scape of tree-lined canals, quaint cafes, and bustling bike lanes. Prostitution is legal in both Denmark and The Netherlands, but the approaches to prostitution are different, and in stark contrast to the general approach in the US. Through visits to NGOs and with Dutch sex workers, you will have plenty of opportunities to look, listen, learn and ask questions. You will leave Amsterdam with a more nuanced perspective of the issues surrounding prostitution and human trafficking.
Anne Brandt Christensen who teaches Human Trafficking in a Global Context and Emily Childers-Brocks who teaches Gender and Sexuality in Scandinavia will be your tour leaders for the weekend. Emily and Anne bring a plethora of insight into these themes and are invaluable resources as you navigate The Netherlands' capital city.
