A three day program-integrated study tour to Western Denmark . Core course(s) with this study tour: Children in a Multicultural Context

Objectives

  • Explore multiculturalism and Nordic concepts of diversity in childcare practices and (other) institutions
  • Analyze experiences and observations of how diversity is percieved, and it's consequences
  • Compare programs and approaches with practicum sites

Previous Activities Have Included

  • Visits with Danish day care institutions and schools in multiethnic neighborhoods
  • Presentations by community-based organizations focused on the integration of ethnic minorities
  • Visits to local youth projects to meet and talk with those affected by public policies

Description

This study tour provides you with the opportunity to explore the field of early childhood and education in a multicultural context in Denmark. On this tour, you will also be able to gain insight into the dynamics of and challenges within the multicultural discourse.  Academic visits on tour could include meeting with local community organizations and child care centers.

In addition to the academic activities on study tour, the study tour program is supplemented with cultural visits to relevant and exciting sites and events to help engage students to the fullest extent.  They help to give students a more well-rounded understanding of the communities in which they are studying.  In the past, cultural visits have included touring museums, experiencing markets, and tasting traditional Danish food at a local Kro.
