Description

Hans Christian Andersen, one of Denmark’s most beloved cultural figures, has captured the hearts and minds of children all over the world through his legacy of fairytales and fables. His stories such as ‘The Ugly Duckling,’ ‘The Little Match Girl,’ ‘Thumbelina’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ have become cross-cultural childhood icons through their numerous retellings.  There is much more to Hans Christian Andersen and his tales than the picture books would tell you. He lived a fascinating and complex life.

We will travel to the island of Funen to walk in the footsteps of the actor, singer, poet, novelist and traveler. With visits to Odense, Hans Christian Andersen’s birthplace, majestic manor houses and quaint provincial towns, we will come to understand the man, the stories and the inspiration behind them.

We will leave on Saturday morning and return on Sunday evening, allowing us two full days to delve into the life of Hans Christian Andersen and explore Funen, Denmark’s fairytale island.
